3 Tips to prepare for the new normal

What will the new normal look like? Will life go back to how it was before COVID-19 or has it changed forever?

Level 4 lockdown

As from 1 May 2020, certain lockdown restrictions will be lifted. Some of the relaxations under Level 4 allow for takeaway foods as well as specific times for exercise. Those wanting to visit the hairdresser or nail salon will have to wait longer as Level 4 restrictions still prohibit these businesses from opening.

Ikonic Real Estate has been advocating for the reopening of the Deeds Office which will now become a reality and is good news for estate agents who can now conclude transactions. The specifics around this still need to be finalised - watch this space.

3 tips to try if stuck at home for the next couple of weeks during Level 4:

  1. Be prepared for change. Accept that it is unlikely that things will revert to what they were prior to the outbreak of the Coronavirus. The first step is to recognise that change is inevitable. Accept it and try to embrace it - often not an easy step.

  1. Be innovative. It will become necessary to make the most of technology. Look at how businesses like Amazon have seen exponential growth during the lockdown period.  Note the 65% increase in their share price between 1 April and 30 April 2020. More people are online and doing all kinds of things including online purchases. Look at ways to tap into this lucrative online market.

  1. "Every storm runs out of rain." Stay positive. Stay connected with loved ones, family and friends. Exercise as often as possible. If one does not wish to join the "crowd" now liberated by Level 4 relaxations, permitting exercising in public, there are many home exercise programmes online - check these out.

No magic wand will change the situation - take charge and steer through this. Past generations have been through comparable catastrophes; the World Wars devastated generations and destroyed economies while the Spanish Flu pandemic of the 1900s shattered communities.

Humankind has weathered nuclear threats, famines, natural disasters and the like - and will get through this one.
