Silver Lakes - Where It All Began

Category News

Silver Lakes Golf and Wildlife Estate was developed in 1992 on a cattle farm owned by Dr Stefanus Lombard.

In the late 1980's Dr Lombard had a vision to create a unique residential resort and applied to have the farm rezoned from agricultural to residential. Dr Lombard then decided to sell the property to Anglo American Property Services in 1990 but remained involved for many years before moving to Namibia.

The notion of developing a residential golf estate with top-notch security was a relatively new concept at the time but this successful formula did not take long to catch on. The advantages of the type of lifestyle on offer made Silver Lakes an instant success.

In 2001 the footprint of Silver Lakes was increased when adjacent land of approximately 77 hectares was incorporated into the existing Estate with the idea of establishing a nature reserve. Several small plains animals including springbuck, nyala and kudu were added to this area. Consequently Silver Lakes became known for not only its 18-hole championship golf course but also for its well-run wildlife reserve.

In 2018 the Estate celebrated its 25th anniversary with a celebration at the Clubhouse providing a chance for reflection on how the Estate had grown and flourished.

For many visitors to the Estate, the first impression is often that of the spectacular Clubhouse with its grand architecture and it remains the focal point of the Estate. The Clubhouse offers residents the choice of different dining experiences at its two restaurants and also has a convenience store and wine shop to further tempt patrons. One of the restaurants at the Clubhouse is the popular family restaurant, Café 41

Amenities include tennis courts, swimming pool, squash courts, golf academy, walking trails, cycling routes, play areas and lakes allowing for fishing and bird watching.

Finweek published a comparative countrywide research article in which Silver Lakes was rated as the Estate with the best security in South Africa.

Ikonic Real Estate has chosen to specialise in rental and sale of property in this prestigious golf and wildlife estate as it is well-managed and offers residents an ideal and secure lifestyle.
